Finding the Right Words About Love
with Jolie Doggett
Tuesday Nights
8-10pm ET on Zoom
March 5th-April 9th, 2024
Course description
This six-week virtual workshop is for anyone seeking to develop or deepen their journaling practice. Led by writer Jolie Doggett, an avid journaler, participants in this course will learn how keeping a journal can help them carve out time for reflection, establish a writing habit, and even break through writer’s block. Through a combination of unique writing prompts, group discussions, and communal free-writing, participants will explore the subject of love: how do we define love? How do we show it? What do we know about love, and what do we want to learn?
Through this thematic exploration, participants will both clarify their understanding of love and be introduced to new journaling methods. Doggett will show them how journaling can function as a form of self exploration, personal documentation, creative expression, and more. They will learn a variety of approaches to make this age-old practice feel fresh, vital, and specifically aligned to their creative journey.

More Info
Class sessions will consist of four parts as follows:
Warm Up
We'll spend a few minutes at the start of class writing through a random prompt to help get our juices flowing and get us into a creative mindset.
Group Discussion
Each class will focus on a different type of love (self-love, romantic love, platonic love, material love, losing love, and self-love again.) and as a group we'll discuss what we know or think about these types of love, where we've learned about it, what we still want to know about it.
Introduction of Prompt
After discussing the class theme, I'll introduce a unique prompt or writing style we can use to document what we're learning and expressing about love (ex: Open letters, word dumping, manifestation, fill in the blank, collaging, etc). Some of these exercises will be done in breakout groups, some done individually. Participants will be encouraged to share.
Freewriting
A chunk of time at the end of each class will be spent writing based on the themes discussed during the class using the creative writing practices discussed in that class or writing on your own. Participants are free to share what they've written.
